About Me
Dr. Amir H. Najafi, MD, FACC, FSCAI is a board certified general and interventional cardiologist who has been named a Top Doctor by Baltimore magazine 8 years in a row from 2015 to 2022, a recognition by his peers. He is one of the few quintuple board certified physicians in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology, echocardiography and nuclear cardiology.
He completed a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at Georgetown University Hospital/Washington Hospital Center followed by an advanced fellowship in interventional cardiology at the University of Maryland Medical Center. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree at Tehran University of Medical Sciences, where he ranked highest in his class. He is also a former postdoctoral fellow of the Cardiovascular Translational Research Program at the MedStar Heart Institute. His extensive research in the fields of angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels) and atherosclerosis (plaque buildup in arteries) has led to several publications in very prestigious scientific journals.
Dr. Najafi serves as the Medical Director of structural heart disease at Sinai Hospital. With his skills in structural heart interventions, he has been instrumental in the launch of the trans-catheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) program and has performed hundreds valve replacements since the start of the program in February 2015. He also spearheaded the introduction of WATCHMAN procedure at Sinai hospital in 2016. With this breakthrough procedure, patients with atrial fibrillation will have an alternative to lifelong dependence on blood thinners, which has been traditionally necessary to mitigate the high risk of stroke in such patients.
He is a member of the American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association, American Society of Echocardiography, and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Intervention.
